Why we started Chichester1.com

Chichester1.com was created and is managed by the family-run website company, Access-byDesign, who are based in Chichester.

Chichester1.com was born out our own frustration as homegrown Cicestrians that information about Chichester on the Internet is largely nationally run, impersonal and inaccessible to a wide range of people. As a smaller, local businesses we were also disappointed in the large (and usually annual) fees many of the city guides charged for even for basic information.

This website was set in August 2006 up with the 3 main aims;

  • To help ALL Chichester RESIDENTS find information about local goods and services quickly and easily online.
  • To inform ALL VISITORS to Chichester of the variety and abundance of attractions, places and events in and around our beautiful city.
  • To highlight and promote Chichester BUSINESSES and encourage local development and growth.

But do we really need ANOTHER directory for Chichester?

Like all the other directories for Chichester, we aim to give our user the best information available. However, arguably unlike other directories, Chichester1 tries to be different in four main ways:

  1. We provide a basic listing for only a £10 (+VAT), single fee to chichester business and services.
  2. We use the latest in dynamic “live” web technology which is fast and compatible with all types of computers, mobile phones and platforms.
  3. We want local businesses to be able to afford to have MORE information than basic listings so we do not charge annual fees. You pay once and providing you do not want to change that information, that is all you will EVER pay. If you do want to make changes, it is simply £10 (+VAT) an item; Affordable for any size of business.
  4. We are a disability-friendly website, tested by disabled people. We do not need to rely on other “disability websites” to provide in alternative inaccessible designs. Rather, Access-by Design are leaders in the field in web accessibility. Why? Because our chief designer IS disabled! This does not mean that Chichester1.com is a “disabled” directory - only that all people with disabilities can use it too..!

How is Chichester1.com funded?

With such low fees and no yearly charges, effectively, we at Access-by design run Chichester1.com as a community service. We do not recieve any support from any charity, grant, agency. Local authorities already invest in nationally-run city directories, although theses are neither generally affordable or disability-friendly.

We therefore rely on businesses purchasing Enhanced Listings to continue.

Please support us by taking out an enhanced listing for your business. We have excellent, unique hit rates, rapidly growing search engine visibility and a fantastic bespoke options from online galleries and slideshows to contact forms all for a one-off payment of £250 (+VAT)!

Who qualifies for lisiting in Chichester1.com?

  • Many local business will have already given us their details during our FREE launch year or had their details entered by us during this 2006-7. Thank you for providing your details and congratulations! - You do not have to pay your £10 Listing Fee! If you qualified, please consider taking out an ‘Enhanced’ or ‘Additional Listing’
  • If you cannot see your business please use our online service to be added. Basic listing is a single payment of £10 (+VAT). Please see our listing options for more details. Please note that (excluding events listings) we only provide listings for Chichester City and the immediate locality. Those that have a postal address outside of Chichester will need to provide reasonable evidence that they operate primarily in Chichester to be included
  • If cannot find your community listing, such as a charity, school or agency etc please add your listing FREE online today. Please note that (excluding events listings) we only provide listings for Chichester City and the immediate locality. Those that have a postal address outside of Chichester will need to provide reasonable evidence that they operate primarily in Chichester to be included
  • Events also qualify for FREE listing! Please use our form to enter your event details. Try to give us as much notice of your event as possible to be sure to avoid disappointment.
